In the quiet residential area in Hiroshima was recently completed a house for a family with three children. The residence offers its particular originality at first sight: the structure of the metal frame and an upper storey concrete floor are completely covered with translucent panels like a large light box. An avid collector of motorcycles, the ground floor has ample space for their storage, with space for a vehicle on the outside as the house is set back four feet from the side of the road.
The next level contains the social program – dining room, living room and kitchen – which lies partly within a concrete core that hides all mechanical and plumbing systems, with the left one final plan for all bedrooms.
The small undulations of plastic plates give a feeling of transparency, but maintain a certain level of privacy, as the only real clear picture exists within about a meter away from the skin and is still a bit ‘distorted. The interior is constantly illuminated by natural light diffused, with operable windows to provide ventilation. inside, the walls become blotched mosaics of the surrounding neighborhood, suggesting the general colors without exposing too much detail.
